Year Five

 Important information about Year 5

  • Please read with your child as often as possible, as regular practice helps build confidence and fluency. After reading, please sign your child’s reading record and add a brief comment.
  • Our P.E day is Monday.  Please ensure your child brings their P.E kit on their allocated P.E day. The PE kit is white t-shirt, navy blue shorts and pumps. The girls can wear plain black leggings under their shorts if they wish.
  • Homework will be given out to children on a weekly basis. Please encourage your child to complete their homework each week and hand it in on time. Regular practice helps to reinforce learning in class and develop independence and responsibility.
  • Children should bring a water bottle to school each day.
  • On a Friday there is a school raffle and tuck shop. Items are 50p to £1 each.

Forgive us for the mistakes that we may make and inspire us to follow in Jesus; footsteps.

 Learning in Year 5

This half term in RE, Year 5 will be  exploring Creation and Covenant through the Lighting the Path framework. We will learn about the story of Creation and explore how Christians understand God as the loving creator of the world. Children will also learn about the importance of covenants and how these special promises help us to understand the relationship between God and His people.

Science – Earth and Space

In Science this half term, Year 5 will be exploring Earth and Space. We will learn about the planets in our Solar System, the movement of the Earth and Moon, and how these movements create day and night, seasons and the apparent movement of the Sun and stars. Children will develop their understanding of space through practical investigations, observations and exciting scientific activities.

In Geography this term, Year 5 will be exploring the United States of America and comparing it with the region where we live in Yorkshire and the Humber. We will investigate the similarities and differences between the physical and human features of the two regions, including landscapes, climate, settlements, population and landmarks. Children will develop their map skills and geographical vocabulary while discovering how different places around the world are connected.
