Important information about Year 2
- Children need to bring their book bag, reading book/record and a water bottle to school every day.
- Please read with your child as regularly as possible. The more they practise, the more confident and fluent they will become. Please write in your child's reading record how they have done with their reading at home, so we can change their book. We check children's fluency and understanding before changing books. Children's books are only changed if they have been reading fluently at home and school.
- Our PE day is Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school. This is a plain white t-shirt, plain blue/black shorts and black pumps. Please check that each item of clothing is named clearly, as well as their normal uniform.
- On Fridays there is a school raffle and tuck shop. Raffle tickets cost 20p each/£1 for a strip. Tuck shop items cost 50p each. Children will be limited to 2 items at £1 for the Friday tuck shop, please don't send them with any more money.
Our Class Saint
Our Class Saint is St. Michael.
St. Michael's feast day is on the 29th September and he embodies the values courage and faith.
Our Class Prayer
In pairs, year 2 wrote their own lines to include in our class prayer, after having a class discussion about what we feel are important values to uphold in our classroom. We then put the prayer together as a class.
Home Learning
Reading
As mentioned previously, year 2 are encouraged to read daily at home. Regular reading at home helps children grow in confidence, develop their imagination and build important language skills whilst embedding their phonics knowledge. To promote a lifelong love of reading, we encourage families to read with their child daily. Asking simple questions, discussing the book and making predictions can help build understanding and enjoyment. This will enhance reading as a positive and enjoyable part of your child's daily routine.
If you read with your child please sign their reading record, and make a comment regarding their reading so that we can monitor this in class and help them move up through the reading bands, and increase their confidence.
Maths
To develop your child's confidence in their maths skills, at home learning could be through practising number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. Alongside, helping your child to recall the 2, 5 and 10 times tables quickly.
English
To aid your child's learning journey in english, we encourage daily reading and embedding phonics skills, as this will have a positive impact on their other aspects such as writing. Practising handwriting and spellings can be beneficial to increase your child's fluency and support their writing ability.
Children can access EdShed for different online activities to practise their english and mathematical skills.
